dee beard dean
Born and raised in the Amish countryside of Indiana, Dee Beard grew up with a love of nature. Although her childhood offered no opportunities to study art, Dee had a creative energy coupled with a tenacious willpower and entrepreneurial spirit. Her mother, a seamstress, encouraged Dee's creativity and curiosity and Dee learned attention to detail from ripping out seams and sewing them continually until she got them right. A tireless work effort was born!
Dee's art began when her parents installed new wallpaper in her room..the perfect setting for a drawing..and Dee happily drew on it a picture of 2 girls. Her father was upset, but her mother thought it was beautiful and encouraged Dee's self expression by buying for her daughter an artist's paint set and a mail order drawing course from the back pages of Good Housekeeping magazine. And, she was off!
Dee went on to graduate from the Kendall School of Art & Design in Michigan, but put her art on hold to relocate to Florida and start a family. She lived a Bohemian dream in Florida and after years of colorful inspiration opened a clothing store and subsequently developed her own line of designer clothing..the "Dee Beard Collections". She lived a life of TV stardom and glamour, but continued to paint fine art landscapes to offer some balance to her life. Painting then won out.
Today, Dee enjoys national recognition for her painterly landscapes and portraits, her expertise in painting en plein air (on location), and as a sought after workshop instructor in the U.S. and many exotic locales around the world. Her work has received many awards at juried art competitions and articles about her work have been published in books and journals. Dee now resides in North Carolina with her husband, Dr. Nicolai Chalfa.
