Marcia Q. Miller received her college degree from Montana State University in Bozeman, Montana. Her concentration was on ceramics and jewelry metalsmithing. The call of the family ranching corporation near Billings, Montana resulted in a 16 year job as a rancher/artist. She began her entrepreneurial career in architectural stained glass, designing and constructing pieces for both residential and commercial clients. In 1985, she began experimenting with fused glass as a jewelry medium, integrating the three disciplines of ceramics, jewelry-making and stained glass. A move back to Bozeman in 1990 enabled her to again study metalsmithing at MSU. Research was done in pewter, electroforming, and glass bead lampworking. She works at her studio near the mountains looking out at her Arabian horses, with the support of her husband and 2 children. In each piece of Q-Miller jewelry, primitive design elements are translated into earrings, pins, necklaces, and fibulas using sheet pewter, sterling silver, electroformed copper, nickel silver and red brass. These pieces are then embellished with colorful hand-lampworked dichroic glass beads, niobium, semi-precious stones and antique ethnic beads. In addition to being unique and beautiful, Q. Miller jewelry is wonderful in that pewter does not have to be constantly polished as with sterling silver! Recently, Marcia's daughter, Callie, joined forces with her mother and now we have even more designs to offer! Q Miller designs remain amongst the most popular at carmen's gallery. |
