All of the artists listed below have had shows here at carmen's gallery and we have represented most of these artists for many years. We are able to obtain any of their work that is still available, so if you see something you like, give us a call!
Manel Anoro
Manel Anoro is very much an extension of the Catalan city, Barcelona. His work transcends whimsy and fantasy in a joyous defiance of tradition, while never losing its structure and tone. Anoro's paintings continue a dialogue with the great masters of fauvism. There is a fundamental sense of liberation, experimentation and realistic harmony at the core of his art.
With his ripe and voluptuous images, you can taste the sweetness of the fruit and wine on a table, hear the surf of the Mediterranean through an open window, feel an afternoon breeze rustle the hair of a languid nude. He blends the country virtues of Catalan's common sensibility with non-rational emotions, an apt definition of his native Barcelona.
Currently, Anoro lives with his family near the rich cerulean Mediterranean Sea in a small quiet village north of Barcelona, along the Costa Brava.
Miguel Arias

Miguel Arias comes to us from Peru. He paints lovely, precise oil paintings on canvas. Arias' subjects are usually still lifes, figures, or florals. Carmen's gallery represents Arias exclusively in the United States. The following painting just arrived in the gallery and one sold the day we unpacked it. His prices are reasonable and his paintings are exquisite.
Jo Barry
Jo Barry was born in Kent where she studied art at Ravensbourne College of Art and Design. After teaching for a few years at Byam Shaw School of Art, she gave up teaching in 1981 to concentrate full time on her own work. Jo's talents led her to etching as her principal means of artistic expression, although she also is proficient and talented at watercolors and pencil drawings.
Jo enjoys a considerable reputation in the art world and now ranks as one of the finest living etchers. Her skill led her to election as a Fellow of the Royal Society of Painter Printmakers.
Jo's studio is at her home in the New Forest, Ringwood, where she lives with her husband and son as well as five cocker spaniels, sheep, chickens, ducks, and countless doves. Her environment provides Jo with a great deal of the inspiration for her work, which depicts nature and her beloved English countryside.
Jo's work is on display in many galleries throughout the UK and at carmen's gallery on Solomons Island, Maryland in the US, where her last major exhibition was held in November, 2006.
In Barry's own words: "I have been etching for twenty eight years now and painting for longer than that. I still love it, still find it exciting, have no plans to retire. Where we live now, in the south west corner of the New Forest, is a blissful spot and I am surrounded by thousands of acres of my favourite countryside. Our house has a little land including an orchard, a stream, a field and a paddock with more trees than I can count. The white doves that appear in some of the images have been lured here and are now breeding in the dove-cote and (to my husband's disgust) in the stables. There are now so many of them and they are moulting and there is a fine layer of white feathers over everything. But they are very beautiful and lovely to have around.
Hessam

Hessam was born in the city of Shiraz, Iran in 1951. At age 15, through the inspiration and encouragement of a high school teacher, Hessam discovered both his love of art and his own talent for painting. Since age 17, Hessam has garnered national and international honors and recognitions for his work.
Hessam studied in Italy - a place he considered "the center of art in Europe." It was in Perugia, Italy that he studied and completed his Master's Degree in Fine Arts at the Accademi De Belle Arti "Pietro Vanucci." Hessam now resides in Los Angeles, California.
Greatly influenced by modern masters from Cezanne to Picasso, Hessam's boldly colorful paintings are filled with love and laughter, music and dance. Hessam Abrishami has provided the world with images that capture an essence of love and romance.
Willi Kissmer

Willi Kissmer was born in Duisburg, Germany in 1951. Multi-talented as a teenager, Willi was undecided whether to dedicate himself to the Visual Arts or to Music. He studied at the Folkwangscule, University of Essen and later taught printmaking at the University of Duisburg, Germany.
Still life and an obsession with the qualities of light are the subjects of Willi Kissmer's art. A disquieting sense of heightened observation, limited palette, and simplicity create moving works that are not conventionally pretty, but compelling and somewhat confrontational. The texture of draped fabric for example, has the effect of transforming a commonplace subject into something extraordinary. Says Kissmer, "Clothes and fabrics emanate calmness. They have something meditative."
Goli Mahallati

Goli Mahallati's triumphant spirit and newly found freedom to express herself is evident in her paintings by the proud stateliness of her independent figures, the emotional connection between couples and joyous gatherings of friends. She was strongly impacted by her multi-cultural surroundings as a young girl raised in Persia. Leaving her birthplace to seek opportunities that were not in accord to young women under an ultra-conservative government, Goli settled in Massachusetts where she earned a MA degree. She currently lives in California where she devotes herself to painting.
As Art conveys emotions and feelings universal and personal to an artist, Goli's work also expresses our individuality and ability to overcome all obstacles, hoping for a world in which all people express themselves freely. Her figures are a reflection of her own journey to light and freedom achieved by her determination not to accept limitations imposed by others. This is a strength that reaches out to us when one views her artwork.
Pang Tseng-Ying
Pang Tseng-Ying's journey from China to the United States spanned a distance far greater than any map can show. From the highly disciplined formality of the East to the broadly interpretive self-expression of the West, he crossed an ideological expanse of more than 4,000 years. Compared to the long tradition of oriental art, the two decades of paintings exhibited in this retrospective are like the swift flourish of an artist's bamboo-handled brush. Yet the marvelous beauty of Pang Tseng Ying's delicate watercolors, painted during the 20 years that he has lived in the United States, bespeaks a transformation of Chinese aesthetics as remarkably subtle as the metamorphosis of a mulberry leaf into silken thread.
Pang has enriched the modern art world of the West, but, even more, he has enlivened the artistic spirit of the East that was hobbled for centuries by the inordinate homage paid to the ancient masters. His works seem to urge 2Oth century Chinese artists to heed the words of Matsuo Basho, the 17th century Japanese poet: "Do not seek to follow in the footsteps of the men of old; seek what they sought." The selected paintings in this retrospective eloquently reveal the artistic virtuosity that Pang has developed as a result of embarking upon his own quest for self-knowledge. Speaking in 1987, he said, "I think, maybe now I honestly can call myself an artist." Carmen's is very proud to carry several of Pang's original serigraphs and reproductions as well as a retrospective book.
Yves Parent

Born in Normandy in 1941, Yves Parent was exposed to art and the sea from an early age. Sailing and painting were always his passion until his death in 2013. He used his watercolor tablet to sketch and paint as he traveled on the water, the notations reminding him of the place, the conditions, and the colors that he experienced. Yves had single handed his sailboat across the Atlantic to Connecticut, where he ultimately resided. Two books of his watercolors, both now out of print, were published in Paris.
carmen's gallery is one of the only US galleries in which Parent's paintings still hang. Parent began with watercolor as his favorite medium and maritime scenes his chosen subject matter. Ultimately, Yves painted luminous, wonderful oil paintings of life on the water. Until the end, Yves was the consummate sailor and renaissance man as he sailed into Solomons harbor once or twice a year and added a touch of French flavor to our island. We will always remember Yves Parent with fondness and as one of our favorite gallery artists in the 35 years that we have been here.
Sabzi

Sabzi's subjects are almost always women. Beautiful, graceful, taciturn and lugubrious, they reflect solitude. His women are madonnas, modern goddesses, and martyred saints whose elongated forms suggest instability and internal conflict. Their anonymous faces transform them into religious icons that transcend and defy the demands of reality. Yet, other paintings reflect warmth, charm, gayety, happiness, and his undisputed love and admiration for women.
Sabzi's paintings resonate both Eastern and Western philosophies. His rich Persian heritage provides him with ancient images and sentimental Persian themes and memories of innocence. The Western source of influences comes from one of the most creative moments of modernism of Cézanne and Matisse. In addition to original oil paintings by this respected artist, carmen's gallery also offers his giclees and serigraphs. In contrast to the muted colors of his earlier work, Sabzi's newest paintings are more colorful and abstract. We at carmen's keep seeing the response to this artist continue to grow.
Tarkay

Itzchak Tarkay was born in 1935 in Subotica on the Yugoslav Hungarian border. In 1949, he and his family immigrated to Israel and were sent to a transit camp for new arrivals at Beer Ya'akov. Their next two years were spent in a Kibbutz.
In 1951, Tarkay received a scholarship to the Bezalel Art Academy in Jerusalem, where he studied for a year before having to leave due to difficult financial circumstances at home. In order to continue his scholarship, he was allowed to study under the artist Schwartzman until his mobilization to the Israeli army. After returning to the familiar environment of Tel Aviv, Tarkay enrolled in the Avni Institute of Art, which he graduated in 1956. His teachers there were Mokady, Janko, Schtreichman and Sematsky.
Tarkay has since exhibited extensively both in Israel and abroad, and his works can be found in many public and private collections, and although his better paintings are difficult to find these days, Carmen's is still has a few on hand in the gallery. To our great sorrow, Itzchak Tarkay passed away on June 3, 2012.
Yuri Tremler

Yuri Tremler was born in the Ukraine in 1961. He attended the College of the Arts in Kharkov and later continued his studies at the Kharkov Art and Design Academy as well as at the Gall Design School in Germany.
Tremler immigrated to Israel in 1996, and two years later decided to dedicate himself almost exclusively to painting. The artist's striking and spontaneous palette clearly expresses a gamut of emotional states and moods. Painted with the accuracy of a designer and the delicacy of a colorist, his works both inspire and calm. He uses the female form and contrasts it with geometric shapes in his paintings. The contrast between the stasis of his stylized female silhouettes and the dynamic interaction of his brightly colored patches and complex textures creates a feeling of internal peace, balanced with the harmony of the external world.
Tremler's works reveal a pronounced decorativeness, giving them a luxurious an pleasurable tone. The richness of the artist's palette is eye-catching. The vertical and horizontal lines in one of his geometric works swim and blur. Crystalline squares and objects blend with feminine silhouettes, moving whimsically from light to shadow, reflecting each other, coming to a halt in scattered multicolored cubes. Tremler's paintings move from the rational to the emotional. The images in his masterful works saturate the emotions and remain in the imagination.
Marius Zabinski

Marius Zabinski was born in 1956 and began his career as a painter very early, immediately after completing four years of study at l'Ecole des Beaux Arts in Warsaw, Poland. His pictorial technique already revealed a remarkable eclecticism of styles. He is one of the rare kinds of artist in that from the beginning he was able to make a living from his paintings, unlike many others who become successful enough to do this only much later on in their careers.
A French art dealer who was on a visit to Warsaw recognized his talent and invited him to go to Paris. The call of this artistic Mecca proved irresistible for the young artist, and though already commercially successful, he risked everything and moved to Paris in 1980. The art dealer organized several personal exhibitions for him. Marius was very satisfied with the encouraging result of his debut before the Parisian public but at the same time he nourished his secret passion, painting in the Cubist style, which he carried out for his personal pleasure without thinking of selling the output. He understood intuitively that Cubism was one of few areas of painting that had not yet been exploited in its entirety and within which there remained much to be discovered and created.
A chance meeting with the dealer and art expert Robert Crouzet during an exhibition opening led to an exchange that revealed common points of view on art in general and Cubist painting in particular. Marius showed him photographs of his paintings and drawings in the purest primitive Cubist style. They decided that together they would stage the first exhibition of his Cubists paintings, which took place in December 1981.
Contemporary Cubist paintings that one sees displayed in galleries are generally pastiches inspired by the great masters of the genre and of only minor interest, even if pleasing to the eye. The situation is quite different for the works of Marius, which reveal an individual personality that cannot be compared to those of any other artist. He himself has become a reference in the genre. The existence of a large number of connoisseurs and knowledgeable amateurs who appreciate and collect his work is proof that Marius has emerged as a recognized master of Cubism. Marius resides in Belgium with his wife.
